Can my mice get bumblefoot from this cage?
I have this cage for my two girls, and someone brought up bumblefoot when it came to the little platforms their houses are on.
I know hamsters are prone to bumblefoot due to how they walk/distribute pressure, but I don't know about mice, seeing as these two are my first mousies ever.
Thank you in advance for any help!!

From what I've read, when mice get bumblefoot it's usually because they live soley on wired flooring and poor conditions. I don't think two small levels would be a problem, but you could always cover them in some way. Fleece covers is one idea. Or maybe tile?

CallaLily had two great suggestions, fleece or tile.
I would definitely cover them with something just so they have a solid surface to walk on.
Even if it doesn't lead to bumble foot, it looks uncomfortable.
Hope that helps

My cage has a level like that. The girls never had any foot problems from it, but it seemed uncomfortable to walk on so I covered it right away. A piece of cardboard works perfectly and is easy to replace when it gets yucky. Some fleece glued on will make it look nice, too.

My dad and I made a plexiglass platform for one of my tanks, and I basically get a shallow box, glue it on to the platform, then fill it with bedding. That way they've got bedding even on the second story. Then I just take the whole box, throw it away, and replace it each week. The bedding keeps it nice and clean up there.

Thank you all for the suggestions!!!
My only question is... is something like cloth okay? Like a cut up old shirt, or like a cut up washcloth?
I want the girls to be safe and comfortable until I can get some fleece, so any info is appreciated!!

Fleece and felt are the only known safe fabrics, I wouldn't risk putting another fabric in. Maybe just cut a piece of cardboard to fit until you can get fleece?

Thank you for letting me know! I didn't know that about the materials. I hope they'll be okay for now until I can find a good cardboard box or some fleece!! Thank you so much, again!!
