Re: Housing Pictures
Hello!
To start, I would strongly suggest adding in more bedding— at least 4-6”. Mice need to be able to burrow so they can thermoregulate. Paper bedding is often better for this as it holds burrows better.
Also be sure the have plenty of places to hide—mice love their cages crowded so don’t be afraid to pack in the toys! This doesn’t have to be expensive either—stuff like toilet roll tubes and cardboard boxes are fan favorites
In addition, you may have to upgrade the wheel as they grow older—most mice will need 8-12” wheels so their tail doesn’t bend as they run.

Thank you so much for the info! Do you mean shredded paper bedding, or the stuff I could get at PetSmart/Petco that's sorta chunky? How often would I have to replace the bedding if I have 4-6 inches of it? I've been doing 80% changes weekly (to keep some bedding in to preserve scent so they don't stress out about territory).

I’m more referring to stuff like Kaytee C&C and Carefresh; plain shredded paper doesn’t hold in warmth as well as paper bedding Fromm my experience.
About 50% every week is what I do, but it may be more for you due to your cage size. Honestly a 60L bag of Carefresh is only $15 provided you can work a deal, so that’s $15 for every 1-2 months. Not too bad!

Re: Housing Pictures
Here's Caillou's new set-up!Â
There's about 5" of bedding on one side, only 2" where his wheel is. The houses have a mix of Carefresh and toilet paper to nest in. Â
It's 98% DIY toys, for now! I would really like to make everything look naturalistic at some point, but I'm adding items slowly. Getting more hanging toys/hammocks, a few shelves, and possibly another wheel soon! His tail is so long he needs 10+ inches for upright wheels. Â
edit to add another angle. The placement in my house is pretty weird so I can't take a picture head on.Â

What a palace! Love the hanging roll idea. My favorite part of my tall tanks were finding ways to use the height.
I was thinking about this thread a lot today so it’s funny it came up. I bought a couple large wire cages for the boys, but I’m not feeling creative enough to make it fun.

Re: Housing Pictures
I'm excited about the height! I think some branches would be fun. I hung everything pretty low this time around because I was worried he'd fall, but he frequently ran up his topper ramp upside down...so I think he's fine. Â
I look forward to pictures when you're feeling more creative.
