CAPSLOCK wrote:Petekey, tie toys to the mesh top to add more vertical activities - floral wire works great and is cheap for a whole bunch, just keep the pointy ends out of the tank.
Paper clips work great for attaching things to mesh lids and the tips aren't sharp.

Re: Housing Pictures
I sometimes use safety pins. But the big ones that are kinds hard to open. The mice have never undone them or poked themselves.
I also use whatever these things are called - spring clips, chinchilla hooks, rat hooks. I've seen them called all sorts of things.

Re: Housing Pictures
Mice just love novelty. I honestly think they're at their happiest when exploring new things

Re: Housing Pictures
Mine still looks pretty empty, but there's been some improvement! I have absolutely no skill when it comes to building MES's. One is basically a mini leaning tower, and the others just messy in general, but they aren't too concerned about it.

Re: Housing Pictures
Looking really good What I think would be really cool now, would be a DIY fleece hammock, or maybe a string and popsicle stick bridge hanging from the lid? (safe strings are sisal, jute, hemp, twine). I think your MESs are really good! Mine are never perfect, as I just try and whip one up as quickly as possible lol.

Re: Housing Pictures
I'll try that next! They'll love it. Both of them are crazy climbers, it'll be good for them.

Re: Housing Pictures
Though I don't have any fleece. Felt would be just as comfortable, right?

Re: Housing Pictures
Alright, as promised here are a few pics of Olimar's clean cage. He lives in only a ten gallon, so it's nothing amazing, but he really loves it
Here is just an overview:)
This is his waterbowl, obviously. And his new tree trunk hide!
His foodbowl. I always put a treat in after his cage is cleaned, because he hates having it cleaned (but always loves exploring the new toys).
His (messy) flying saucer wheel.
And his new MES I just made a few days ago! I'm pretty proud of it. I like that I can set chews up on top of it. And he LOVES it! I had to move it around Saturday and he got so excited/anxious!
View of the bottom of it (and a cute little mouse foot ).
That's pretty much it. Not much, I know. But I'm going to be making him a hammock soon and I'm so excited!

Re: Housing Pictures
Olimar has a very nice home indeed really wish they sold that tree trunk house over here, I've seen it a few times and am very jealous! I think a hammock will be a very nice addition my fleece arrived today so I'm off to make some!

Re: Housing Pictures
Why does he have a water bowl instead of a bottle? Bottles are a lot more sanitary.
But it's a lovely setup! What's the orange thing on the ground? A carrot?

Re: Housing Pictures
Some mice refuse to use water bottles, or keep bowls clean. Could that be the case?

Re: Housing Pictures
I've got a bottle and a bowl in with my gals right now - the bottle is unreliable and just stops dispensing. Got a second bottle and it does the same thing. So they've got a bowl until I find a bottle that consistently works.
