Can mice eat beetles?
I'm wondering what type of wild insects can mice eat, particularly these small black beetles that I often see. Is it safe for them? I know they can eat certain bugs but I, of course, don't just randomly feed whatever bug I find in my house.

I would never feed a mouse any insect I caught around the house or from outside. You can't know what those insects have gotten up to. It's not exactly the same, but I've taken care of frogs who eat diets of live insects, and in the frog community it is always expressly stated to never feed your frog insects you catch.
What you can do if you wanna give your mice live insects as treats is go to a local pet store (I know Petco works) and ask for a small bag of 4-5 live crickets. They're very cheap, and you can plop them right in your mouse's tank. Crickets bred for amphibian feeding is 100% safe. When I used to have frogs, I would let Little Cow scamper around the bathroom floor and clean up any escapee crickets.

In addition to what CinnamonPearl said, you can also purchase mealworms from your local pet store, mice like them too. Mealworms have always been a better option for me, due to someone in my house having a fear of crickets.

Wild bugs could be carrying parasites so it's best not to risk it. My mice love dried mealworms, though I've never tried live.

Awesome. Thanks! I'll definitely pick up some crickets and meal worms for my little mice.

Also, mealworms grow up into beetles! If you feel like undertaking a little 'mealworm farm'. Just watch it with the adults, as they could potentially bite. My mice used to love them. It really brought out their inner predator

Hint: Five containers probably aren't necessary. I used to raise them just with one. Just sift out the buggies and clean it every so often, and you should be golden! Plain instant oatmeal is great, I found, for both bedding and food.
